The late Abigail “Gail” Marcotte, born on November 19, 1951, in New York, tragically passed away on May 17, 2024, during a train trip through Virginia. Gail was a beautiful soul, known for her charm and wit, and a dedicated mother to four children. Her life, filled with both joy and sorrow, saw her surviving a hit and run as a child, enduring two near-death experiences, and losing her husband, home, and a son. Despite these hardships, she remained a survivor, always helping others and brightening any room she entered with her lively personality.
In her final years, Gail lived in Portland, Oregon, and was known for her charitable work, particularly with communities experiencing homelessness. Her sudden passing has left her three surviving daughters, who live in Seattle, Boston, and Portland, struggling to cope and gather funds for her burial. The family is seeking $11,000 to cover the expenses of traveling to Virginia and providing Gail with a proper burial on the East Coast, where her family’s roots lie.
The fundraiser, organized by her daughter Candy Marcotte, highlights their need for support during this difficult time. Any remaining funds will be donated to causes dear to Gail’s heart, including homelessness and turtle conservation. The Marcotte family deeply appreciates any help in giving their beloved mother a dignified farewell.
