Steven Coen, Dedicated EMT and Firefighter, Tragically Passes Away in House Fire in Goodwell, OK

The Goodwell and Guymon communities are mourning the heartbreaking loss of 49-year-old Steven Coen, an EMT and firefighter, who tragically lost his life in a house fire early on May 1, 2026.

The fire broke out around 5:15 a.m. in Goodwell, Oklahoma, at a residence on Aggie Avenue. Crews from Goodwell, Guymon, and Texhoma responded quickly to reports of heavy smoke and flames engulfing the house.

Firefighters from Goodwell Fire Department bravely entered the building and rescued the sole occupant. Paramedics from Guymon Fire Department rushed Coen to Memorial Hospital of Texas County, but he was later pronounced dead.

Steven Coen had dedicated 10 years of service to the Guymon Fire Department’s EMS Division, where his commitment and professionalism were highly valued. Fire Chief Grant Wadley expressed the deep sadness felt by the department and the community, remembering Coen as someone always ready to serve others.

Coen also worked in Hooker, Oklahoma, providing essential EMS coverage, and he had been scheduled to serve as a first responder at the upcoming Pioneer Days Rodeo. His contributions to his community, especially in critical moments, will never be forgotten.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Oklahoma State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office.

As news of his passing spreads, the people of Goodwell and Guymon continue to honor Steven’s selflessness and dedication to helping others.
