The late Ryne DeArmond was from Odessa, Texas. His aunt, Shannon Barry, has organized a fundraiser to help cover his final expenses and support his family, particularly his mother, Lynda Barry. This news is heartbreaking for the community and all who knew him.
Ryne Alexander Edward DeArmond’s journey with cancer began in August 2021 when he was diagnosed with testicular cancer. Over the next three years, the cancer spread to his lungs, scapula, and spinal cord, ultimately leading to his passing on May 24, 2024. Despite his battle with cancer, Ryne lived a life full of achievements and experiences.
Born on April 7, 1990, in Odessa, Texas, Ryne graduated from high school in China Spring, Texas. He explored various professions, including whiskey distilling at Balcones Distillery and pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice from Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi. Ryne also attended South Texas College of Law before deciding to shift his career path. He earned his merchant mariner credential and served as a captain aboard the Seagull II in Galveston, Texas. His passion for history led him to blacksmithing and teaching Texas history at George Ranch in Richmond, Texas.
Ryne’s final months were marked by severe health challenges, including paralysis and extensive metastasis of his cancer. He was admitted to hospice on May 16, 2024, and passed away eight days later, leaving behind his mother, Lynda Barry, and his sister, Sarah Catharine Elizabeth DeArmond.
In his memory, the family has requested donations to local animal shelters or K-9 units instead of flowers. They also encourage celebrating Ryne’s life by raising a glass, sharing stories on his legacy Facebook page, or engaging in activities he loved, such as fishing or visiting the gun range.
Shannon Barry’s GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise $10,000 to cover the remaining medical and funeral expenses. As of now, they are still seeking the first donation, and any contribution is greatly appreciated to help Lynda and Sarah through this difficult time.
