Maria Procida, a beloved member of the Levittown community, is facing a heartbreaking battle with cancer. At 53 years old, Maria has been enduring stage 4 ovarian cancer since 2022. Despite undergoing a total hysterectomy and subsequent chemotherapy, which initially cleared the cancer, her fight took a dire turn earlier this year.
In January, Maria began experiencing severe stomach pains, only to discover that the cancer had returned and spread to her stomach and colon. After multiple surgeries to remove cancerous tumors, her condition worsened, leading to her hospitalization. Tragically, a few days ago, Maria’s family received the devastating news that she has only three weeks left to live, and she has been moved to hospice care.
Maria’s daughter, Veronica Procida, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the costs of sending Maria back to her homeland, El Salvador, for her final journey, as well as to cover funeral expenses. Veronica describes her mother as a vibrant, loud, and humorous person who always brought joy to those around her. "She was definitely a fighter even when we were little," Veronica shared, highlighting her mother’s resilience and spirit.
The Procida family is deeply grateful for the support they have received during this challenging time. "Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a meaningful difference in this journey," Veronica expressed. She, along with her brothers Eduardo and Christian, thanks the community for their kindness and generosity.
As they navigate this painful period, the Procida family continues to cherish the moments they have left with Maria, drawing strength from the support of friends, family, and the wider community. Veronica’s GoFundMe campaign is a testament to the love and unity surrounding Maria, reflecting the profound impact she has had on those who know her.
