The late Donald Wenzel Jr., aged 58, of Middletown, NJ, passed away on May 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Long Branch, Donald spent his entire life in Middletown, where he earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering and dedicated over 30 years of his career to Albireo Energy.
Don shared 28 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Bonnie. He is survived by Bonnie, his sons Jarrad, Jason, and Justin, and his parents Donald Wenzel Sr. and Patricia Wenzel. He is also survived by his sister Debbie, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Donald was predeceased by his grandparents Madeline and Walter Howell, John Clementi, and Joseph and Katherine Wenzel.
Donald had a passion for gardening, camping, and fishing, sharing these loves with his sons and finding immense joy in the outdoors. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
A Celebration of Life was held in Don’s honor on May 17, 2024, at Evergreen Memorial Funeral Home in Middletown, NJ. His burial was private. In lieu of flowers, donations were requested to be made to the Chron’s & Colitis Foundation.
Eric Brown organized a fundraiser on behalf of Bonnie Wenzel to support the family during this time of grief. The fundraiser, titled "Support Don’s Family in Their Time of Grief," has raised $3,125 of its $50,000 goal, with contributions from 15 donors. Christopher Wozniak made the top donation of $1,250, with Nick Vloyanetes contributing $100, and Tom Bannister being the first to donate $25.
Eric Brown shared heartfelt words about Don, emphasizing his role as a pillar of strength and kindness. He praised Don’s impact on the Albireo Energy family, noting his generosity, compassion, and the difference he made in many lives through his guidance and extensive knowledge.
In this time of immense grief, the community is coming together to support Don’s family, ensuring that Bonnie and their sons can focus on healing without the added stress of financial worries. Eric Brown urged everyone to remember Don as the kind soul who touched many lives, stating, "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die." Don’s legacy and memory will indeed live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
