Caleb Bross, an 18-year-old from Elmwood, tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident on Saturday, May 18, 2024. The accident occurred less than a mile from his home, leaving his community in deep mourning.
R&R Back Road Country Retreat expressed their sorrow on Facebook, writing, "Our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Caleb Bross, 18, from Elmwood. Caleb was killed in a motor vehicle accident last Saturday night less than a mile down the road. We stopped at the accident site to pay our respects, say a few prayers for his family, and shed some tears for this young man we never knew. We travel that way frequently and now we will think of him every time we pass by. Such a tragic loss at such a young age. May you all find comfort and peace in the days ahead."
The accident has left many in shock and grief, with friends and strangers alike sharing their condolences online. Matty Geier commented, "Terrible!!!" while Norma Jean added, "So sorry and sad to hear. Prayers for all! xoxo." Linda Humphrey also shared her sadness, stating, "Heartbreaking to you who loved him."
In memory of Caleb, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Maeve Paterson to restore his beloved 1986 Chevy Wrangler. The fundraiser aims to collect $10,000 to cover half the cost of the restoration project. So far, $120 CAD has been raised, with donations from Garrett Logie and Andres Meneses.
Caleb’s passion for mechanics was well-known. He dreamed of opening his own mechanic shop one day and had a deep love for his ’86 Chevy Wrangler. The truck, originally his step-dad Adam LeBlanc’s, was the first vehicle Caleb ever drove. Despite the truck falling into disrepair, Caleb’s dream was to restore it fully.
A memorial service for Caleb will be held on June 1, 2024, at the Hanover Legion from 1 pm to 4 pm, with words of remembrance starting at 3 pm. The community continues to rally in support of Caleb’s family and the restoration of his cherished truck, ensuring that his memory and dreams live on.
