Mitchell Lindstrom, Dedicated Superior, WI Educator and Devoted Family Man, Dies After Medical Emergency During Winter Stay in South Padre Island

Mitchell Lindstrom, a longtime educator and respected community member from Superior, Wisconsin, passed away in the early morning hours of March 4 after complications following a sudden medical emergency while visiting South Padre Island.

Lindstrom had been spending February in South Padre Island with spouse Wendy, a winter destination they looked forward to each year.

On February 26, after returning from an evening walk with their dog, Lindstrom briefly lost consciousness and collapsed in an elevator while heading back to the room.

Medical teams transported Lindstrom to a nearby trauma hospital where doctors discovered a severe neck fracture at the C6 and C7 vertebrae that compressed the spinal cord.

Surgeons performed a seven-hour emergency procedure, and Lindstrom remained in intensive care for six days while preparing for a second operation.

Despite continuous care from medical staff, Lindstrom’s condition declined rapidly on March 4, when cardiac arrest occurred shortly before the scheduled surgery.

Family friend Morgan Gramstrup wrote online, “Our hearts were shattered by the sudden and tragic loss of Mitch.”

Lindstrom spent a career teaching fifth grade at Northwestern Elementary School in Superior and coached youth basketball, baseball, football, and softball for more than two decades.

Friends remember Lindstrom as a devoted partner, proud parent to Lindsey, Austin, and Jessica, and someone who loved sports, education, and family adventures.

Memorial service details will be shared by the family at a later time.
