The late Shishir Karki was from Richmond, California. The community is currently rallying to support his family and arrange for his final tribute and funeral services following his untimely death in a tragic train accident in San Diego.
Shishir’s sister, Kalpana Karki, is spearheading a fundraising campaign to cover the substantial expenses associated with transporting his body from San Diego to Richmond and performing the Hindu funeral rites. Kalpana has expressed her difficulties in managing these costs alone and has reached out to the Nepali community for support.
In her heartfelt appeal on GoFundMe, Kalpana wrote, "My name is Kalpana Karki, and for the past eight years, my family and my brother Shishir Karki have been living in the Richmond Bay Area of San Francisco. My only brother Shishir Karki went to San Diego for a while and unfortunately passed away in a tragic train accident. Now, according to Hindu customs, I need to perform his last rites. Bringing his body from San Diego and conducting the funeral service will be very expensive, far beyond my financial capacity. I am unable to manage this alone and kindly request the support of the entire Nepali community during this difficult time."
So far, the campaign has raised $101 of its $10,000 goal, with the first donation coming from Suraj Pakhrin, who contributed $101. The fundraising effort is still in its early stages, and the community’s support is crucial to reaching the target.
Dikpal Khatri Chhetri shared on Facebook, "Life is short. Let’s support for Shishir Karki’s final tribute and funeral." Suraj Pakhrin also commented, "Thank you for sharing Dikpal Khatri Chhetri ji, When Humanity comes You always there to support – Big Heart- stay blessed, let’s support."
The fundraiser reflects a sister’s plea to honor her brother’s wishes and the collective spirit of the community in times of grief.
