The late Sherry Emmons, a beloved member of the Manito community, has recently passed away. Her step-son, Cody Emmons, along with other family members, is spearheading efforts to cover her cremation expenses through a GoFundMe campaign.
Sherry was much more than a wife, mother, stepmother, sister, and friend; she was a pillar of strength and love for everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her kindness, warmth, and unwavering support touched countless lives. Unfortunately, her unexpected passing has left her family grappling with financial challenges, including medical bills and cremation costs.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Cody Emmons expressed his gratitude to the community for their support. "I don’t post much or really ever… but we’re looking for a little help from friends, family, and the community that knew and loved Sherry," he wrote. He emphasized the importance of coming together to support his father, Rodney Emmons, during this difficult time. Cheryl Emmons Quick Cockerham, another family member, also thanked Cody for his initiative, stating, "Thank you, Cody, for taking charge to help your dad and in honor of Sherry."
The GoFundMe campaign, titled "Helping Honor Sherry’s Legacy: Cremation Fund," has raised $1,445 of its $3,000 goal from 19 donations. Contributions range from the recent $75 donation by Rebecca Howell to the top $150 donation by Paula Clark, and the first $20 donation by Matthew Garlisch.
Cody Emmons, the organizer of the fundraiser, highlighted the impact of Sherry’s life and the financial burden left behind. "Your generous donations will directly contribute to covering the expenses of Sherry’s cremation and, if there is any leftover, help with the medical bills incurred over the last few months," he noted. He also acknowledged the value of non-monetary support, such as thoughts, prayers, and kind messages, during this trying time.
The community has rallied around the Emmons family, showcasing the collective strength and compassion that Sherry herself embodied. This fundraiser not only aims to honor Sherry’s legacy but also underscores the importance of community support in times of personal loss.
