The late Ryder Jacob Ruoho, born on June 18, 2024, in Tooele, Utah, was a beloved newborn whose brief life has left an indelible mark on his family and community. His parents, Matt and Jessica Ipson Ruoho, faced unimaginable grief as they welcomed Ryder, who was born still.
Ryder was diagnosed with a rare heart tumor, a rhabdomyoma, two weeks before his birth. This tumor occupied more space than his heart, leading to a slow heart rate and significant defects. Despite the best efforts and consultations with fetal cardiologists and maternal-fetal medicine doctors, it was determined that Ryder would not survive. His parents were devastated but found solace in the moments they had with him.
"My brother and sister-in-law have handled this with so much strength and grace," shared Jenessa Brown, Ryder’s aunt, on Facebook. She announced the heartbreaking news and thanked everyone for their support during this challenging time. Jenessa also organized a GoFundMe campaign to help with the funeral expenses and other costs incurred by the family.
The GoFundMe campaign, titled "Support for Ruoho Family in Memory of Ryder," has raised $260 of its $10,000 goal. The community has shown their support through donations and kind words. Scott DeCow, one of the donors, contributed $25 and expressed his condolences. Leah West, who donated $50, and Abbie Spader, who donated $30, were among the first to offer their support.
The outpouring of love and support from the community has been a source of comfort for the Ruoho family. Friends and relatives have shared their condolences and prayers on social media. Ali Hansen wrote, "So sad to hear this! So much love to you, Matty, and the rest of the sweet Ruoho family." Jennifer Treasure Lyn Goodwin added, "My heart is breaking for you and your family. Sending love and prayers."
Matthew Ruoho, Ryder’s father, expressed his deep sorrow and the bond he feels with his wife during this difficult time. "Though Jess and I have watched helplessly through all of this, I feel that we are closer than ever. If I must walk this dreadful path, I’m glad I walk with Jess by my side," he wrote. He also shared a poignant quote from Winnie the Pooh: "Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart."
Rest in peace, Ryder Jacob Ruoho. Your brief presence has touched many hearts, and your memory will forever be cherished by those who love you.
