The late Roman Hyria, originally from Kharkiv, Ukraine, was a beloved member of the Upton upon Severn community. In July 2022, his wife Svitlana and their children fled Kharkiv due to the ongoing war and settled in Upton upon Severn. Roman, who had been receiving cancer treatment in Ukraine, was unable to continue his medical care there because of the war. He was given permission to leave the country and joined his family in June 2023. Tragically, Roman passed away on Sunday, 26th May, after being admitted to Worcester Royal Hospital.
To support the family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe page has been organized by Glyn Olden to raise funds for Roman’s funeral. The goal is to collect £4,155, with £235 already raised through seven donations. The community has been encouraged to share the fundraiser link and contribute if possible. The Upton Baptist Church has also expressed their support, sharing the fundraiser link on social media and urging others to donate.
In the fundraiser description, it is noted that Roman’s children are now settled in local schools and Svitlana works locally in town. The unexpected cost of the funeral is a burden they had hoped never to face. The fundraiser aims to cover the expenses of a simple funeral to honor Roman’s memory and allow his family to say their goodbyes.
Glyn Olden, the organizer, expresses gratitude for any support given to help the Hyria family during this challenging time.
