Rey Leonardo Mendez, a devoted father and dedicated detentions officer contracting for the Border Patrol, was tragically taken from us on June 9, 2024, at approximately 1 pm. Rey was a passenger in a fatal vehicular accident when the driver of the vehicle lost control. The family is at a loss right now and is attempting to raise money to cover funeral expenses.
Rey is survived by his fiancée Francheska Martinez, daughters Sarilou and Rachel, parents Carlos and Lourdes Mendez, siblings Charlie, Danny, Krystal, and Yvette Mendez, and grandmother Maria Mendez. His aunts Paula, Olivia, and Susie Mendez are also part of the grieving family. Services are still to be determined.
A fundraiser organized by Susie Mendez on GoFundMe aims to raise $2,500 to support the family in their time of need. So far, $170 has been raised, with contributions from generous individuals like Maria Cordero and an anonymous donor. Susie expressed her gratitude, saying, "We truly appreciate any help and or shares you can provide at this time. Thank you from the Mendez Family."
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Ana Contreras invited the community to join a candlelight vigil at the corner of Zaragosa and Americas intersection on June 11, 2024, at 7:30 pm. "Please join us and share your memories of Rey Mendez," Ana wrote, highlighting how greatly missed Rey is.
The community’s support during this challenging time reflects the collective effort to honor Rey’s memory and assist his family. The fundraiser and vigil are testaments to the love and respect that Rey garnered during his life.
