Nicole Joy Kulas, 41, passed away on Friday, June 14, 2024, in Gainesville, Florida. Born in Binghamton, New York, Nicole was the daughter of Jaqueline Bailey-Warren and was adopted by Pamela Bailey-Kulas and Thomas B. Kulas. She is also survived by her brother, Adam J. Kulas, who is now deceased.
Nicole Kulas’s life was marked by both joys and profound losses. She was a mother to eight children: Karlie Rickard, John Powell Jr, Joshua Powell, Jeremiah Powell, Kayla Powell, Jason Powell, Kelsie Powell, and Kaylee Powell. Earlier this year, Nicole welcomed her first grandchild, Luke Rickard, born on January 8th, 2024. Sadly, Nicole was preceded in death by her biological mother, adoptive father, many siblings, and her beloved children.
Following her unexpected death, Nicole’s daughter Karlie Rickard initiated a GoFundMe campaign to cover the cremation expenses. Karlie, 24, the eldest of Nicole’s children, shared the heartbreaking news that a family member had given away Nicole’s burial plot without notice. This left the family with cremation as the only viable option. Karlie expressed her need for donations to cover the costs associated with the cremation, the mailing of Nicole’s remains, and purchasing jewelry for her special needs siblings to keep a part of their mother close.
The fundraiser highlights the financial strain the family is under, especially with Karlie recently having her son in January. She wrote, "Any help is greatly appreciated," underscoring the urgency and emotional weight of the situation.
The community has shown an outpouring of sympathy and support. Many took to Facebook to express their condolences:
