Known to many as "SpicyRicy," Matt’s death has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him. He was a dedicated teacher at Waples Mill Elementary, where he made a lasting impact on countless children, guiding them in their social and emotional development.
Matt’s passing has sparked an outpouring of support and condolences from friends and family. A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Crystal Philcox Plater to support Matt’s wife, Christina Rice, and their three-year-old son, Clayton. As of today, the fundraiser has raised $1,325 of its $200,000 goal from just three donations. Contributions have come from Mark Schoonmaker, who donated $1,000, Daniel Siques, who donated $250, and Amanda Kastl, who donated $75. The campaign aims to help cover funeral expenses and provide financial support for Clayton’s future.
Crystal Philcox Plater, in her fundraiser description, highlighted Matt’s dedication to his family and community. "Matt Rice, you may have known him as SpicyRicy, tragically passed away. He was a rock in our community. He taught kids before and after school at Waples Mill Elementary – the social and emotional stuff he used to say. My kids and so many others learned and grew under Matt’s watch. He was always busy with his landscaping business or donating his time and resources to set up events and help others. He was incredibly giving, authentic, and genuine."
Matt Rice’s legacy is marked by his love for life and his many hobbies, including water skiing, fireworks, bonfires, camping, ax throwing, bowling, snow skiing, golfing, karaoke, and parasailing. He was a loving husband to Christina, also a teacher, and a devoted father to Clayton. The community is rallying to support Christina and Clayton during this difficult time, hoping to preserve Matt’s memory and provide for his family’s future.
