The late Mark Fleming of Staffordshire passed away on May 25, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer, which he was diagnosed with in May 2023. Known fondly as "Flemo" to many, Mark was a beloved father of four and a best friend to his partner Jayne.
Mark’s journey through life was marked by hard work and dedication. After leaving school, he initially became a car dismantler, a job he enjoyed for many years. Later, he joined his father Marvin in learning the craft of dry stone walling, which eventually led him to establish his own business. Mark thrived in the countryside, passionate about his work despite later health setbacks like a hernia, which forced him to give up heavy lifting. Nevertheless, his work ethic remained unshaken as he continued to drive vans across the country.
In May 2023, Mark’s life took a drastic turn when he was diagnosed with cancer. His battle with the disease was marked by resilience and bravery. Despite aggressive treatment and numerous hospital visits, the cancer spread, making daily tasks increasingly difficult. In the final weeks, Mark’s health deteriorated rapidly, leading to significant weight loss and decreased ability to communicate. He often expressed to his family the profound struggle he was enduring, saying, "This is no way to live, I wouldn’t wish this on anyone."
Mark’s passing has left his family and friends in deep sorrow. Joshua Fleming, his son, expressed immense pride in his father’s bravery and strength throughout his illness. The family has set up a GoFundMe campaign to cover the funeral costs, as no arrangements were in place due to the unexpected nature of Mark’s passing. The campaign, organized by Joshua, aims to raise £3,100, of which £895 has been collected so far.
The community has shown support, with donations from individuals like Helen Howle, who gave £20, Susan Bagnall, who contributed £100, and Chloe Forrester, who made the first donation of £10. Joshua Fleming’s heartfelt appeal reflects the family’s desire to honor Mark with the send-off he deserves, emphasizing the profound impact he had on their lives and the void his absence has created.
As the family seeks closure, they invite anyone who knew Mark or wishes to support them to contribute to the fundraiser. Every donation, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated and will help in giving Mark the dignified farewell he deserves.
