The late Kerry T. Williams, Jr, a beloved figure in Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 7:01 pm. Surrounded by his wife, three sons, mother, and brother, Kerry’s passing was a peaceful end to a three-week battle following a serious fall on May 30th. This fall resulted in a broken femur bone, which severely exacerbated his pre-existing heart condition, leading to multiple instances of cardiac arrest and ultimately multi-organ failure.
Kerry, known affectionately as Coach Kerry, was deeply loved by his family and the community. Unfortunately, his unexpected passing has left the Williams family facing significant financial difficulties, as Kerry did not have adequate life insurance. The family is now seeking assistance to ensure he receives a proper burial and a fitting celebration of his life. Stephanie Williams, a family member, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise the necessary funds, with a goal of $9,700.
The community has begun to rally around the Williams family, with donations trickling in. As of now, $250 has been raised from four donations, including contributions from Michele Cooper, Nedra Gaines, and Sarah Robinson.
On Facebook, many have shared their condolences and memories of Kerry. Tre Williams, one of Kerry’s sons, expressed the family’s grief: "It is with extreme sadness that we announce my father Kerry T. Williams, Jr passed away yesterday evening at 7:01 pm. As some of you know, my Dad had a really serious fall on May 30th. He broke his femur bone and was in an immense amount of pain. This exacerbated his heart condition and caused him to code multiple times which led him into multi-organ failure."
Friends and community members have also posted heartfelt messages. Michael E. Gerald wrote, "So sorry for your loss, Kerry was a great man and friend." Nancy Rippe Burtchaell offered a prayer, saying, "Eternal rest grant unto Kerry, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May the soul of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen." Other friends, like Sorina Thia, sent their condolences: "Condolences to the Williams family. Rest in peace my friend."
The Williams family is asking for support in any form, whether through donations, purchasing from their Etsy shop, or sending checks directly to Stephanie Williams. They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of prayers and support during this difficult time. Information regarding the date and time of services will be posted once finalized.
