John Garrett Vigna tragically passed away on April 29th, 2024. John had a long and successful career in the Capitol and the Democratic Party. Throughout his career, he fought for workers and the underdog, working alongside notable figures such as Speaker John A. Pérez, Lorena Gonzalez, Fiona Ma, and the California Democratic Party. He also held positions as the President of the California Young Democrats, a member of the Sac County Dept of Health and Human Services Alcohol and Drug Advisory Board, and the City of Sacramento Racial Profiling Commission, and was a founding member of the Capitol LGBTQ Association.
In addition to his professional achievements, John was known for his love of trivia, which led him to become a champion on Jeopardy!, both as a one-day champion and as a wildcard quarterfinalist. However, to his family and friends, John will be remembered for his welcoming heart and his love of animals, particularly his beloved dog, Archer.
John and Archer were both involved in the tragic accident that led to John’s untimely death, but Archer survived and now requires ongoing medical care. In honor of John, Vigna Friends and Family have organized a GoFundMe fundraiser with a goal of $5,000. The primary purpose of this fund is to cover the expenses related to Archer’s medical care. Any remaining funds will be donated to non-profits that were significant to John, including Front Street Animal Shelter and the Los Angeles LGBTQ Center.
The fundraiser is a testament to John’s lasting impact and the love and support of his community, ensuring that his legacy and compassion continue to make a difference.
