James Vanhorn of Baxley, Georgia, tragically took his own life on June 15, 2024. His passing has left his family and friends in deep mourning and struggling to cope with the sudden loss.
James, described as a loving, giving, and funny young man by his aunt Wendy Turner, had long battled mental health issues. Wendy emphasized the importance of addressing mental illness and depression, and urged people to connect with their loved ones beyond social media. "Please help by giving any amount if you can, we want to honor James Vanhorn and create a legacy for him!" she wrote on Facebook. She highlighted the need for personal interaction, saying, "Nothing and I mean nothing replaces a human touch, a hug, nothing!"
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Kara Little and Chris Baer to help cover James’s funeral expenses and support the bereavement process. So far, $550 has been raised out of a $5,000 goal, with contributions from Randi Wilson, Roberto Torres, Joy Weeks, and Evan West. The funds will be used to give James a proper send-off, with any remaining money donated to a mental health charity.
James’s death is a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by those struggling with mental health issues and the importance of community support in times of crisis. His family hopes to raise awareness and break the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide.
