On Sunday, May 19, 2024, Debra (Debbie) Atkins received a call that no mother ever wants to get: her son James had been in a motorcycle accident. At 11:47 am, James was struck by a Toyota and ejected from his bike. Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was airlifted to Mercy Hospital. Tragically, shortly after his arrival, James Atkins, aged 33, succumbed to his injuries.
James was known for his heart of gold and infectious smile, traits that made him beloved by many. He worked with his cousin Adam at AP Electric and spent his evenings riding his Harley Davidson. James enjoyed laughing and drinking Budweiser with his friends Mike and Nuts, adored his dog Zeus, and loved working on cars with his Uncle Tommy. He leaves behind his sister Jennifer (Jenny) and numerous others who cared deeply for him.
James, like many young adults, did not have life insurance, leaving his family struggling with the financial burden of his untimely death. In response, Cheryl Richmond organized a fundraiser to help ease the Atkins family’s financial strain. As of now, the fundraiser has raised $100 of its $10,000 goal, thanks to a generous donation from Jeff Jones.
The community has expressed their sorrow and support on social media. Lindsey Marie shared, "I am absolutely shattered by the news. Rest Easy James Atkins." Jeniafer Campbell mentioned, "I just seen him last night at Twisters, he was playing pool with a friend of mine." Gia Saleen added, "Smh so sad."
The Atkins family is reaching out for support to help with memorial arrangements and to alleviate the financial stress during their grieving period. They have expressed their gratitude in advance for any assistance and asked to keep them in your prayers.
Memorial services for James will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 2 pm to 6 pm at Collier’s Funeral Home, 3400 N. Lindbergh Blvd., St. Ann, MO 63074.
The family is finding solace in their faith, quoting Psalms 34: "The LORD is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. The righteous person faces many troubles, but the LORD comes to the rescue each time." They ask the community to share the word and help in any way they can.
