On June 15th, 2024, 17-year-old Isya Stanley, a recent high school graduate, was tragically fatally shot at a gathering in the Fairmount Park section of Philadelphia. Isya was a vibrant young scholar, entrepreneur, and soon-to-be Morgan State College student. Her untimely death has left her family and the community devastated.
A GoFundMe campaign has been organized by Community Organizers to raise $10,000 for her burial fund. This fundraiser was created today, June 17th, 2024. The campaign emphasizes Isya’s bright future and the deep loss felt by those who knew her, urging the community to support her family during this difficult time.
Regina Jones-Stanley, Isya’s mother, is particularly distraught. Irie Hawkins shared on Facebook, "Please with a heavy heart, they took my family. Her mother means the world to me. When I started reading RIP, my heart dropped. We need all donations for my baby girl, please help Regina Jones-Stanley."
The community has been showing overwhelming support, with many pouring out love and aid for the family. Montana Dash, another community member, questioned the tragic event by asking, "Who made this?" an hour ago on Facebook.
Isya leaves behind her mother, Regina, her father, two brothers, Sahiem and Samir, and a wealth of friends and family. The family is beginning to make arrangements for her service, welcoming any support, whether financial or in the form of services for the funeral.
In response to this tragedy, a change.org petition has been initiated to combat gun violence in Philadelphia, aiming to prevent future senseless deaths like Isya’s. The community’s collective grief underscores the pressing need for action against the epidemic of gun violence.
Isya’s story is a poignant reminder of the fragility of life and the urgent need for community support and systemic change.
