The late Gary Pegram from New London, North Carolina, passed away on May 25, 2024. The community and his friends are deeply mourning his loss. Gary was known for his infectious smile and his ability to bring joy and laughter wherever he went. He was a beloved member of the Badin Shores community, which he considered his family.
Gary’s friends from the BSR community are organizing his final arrangements. Kimberly Simpson has started a GoFundMe campaign titled "Honoring Gary Pegram: Support His Final Journey" to raise funds for his cremation and to create a statue memorial in his honor at the BSR memorial garden. Any additional funds will be used to plant trees in his name. So far, $225 of the $1,000 goal has been raised, with donations from Judy Bell, Anonymous, and Kimberly Simpson.
On Facebook, many people expressed their condolences and shared memories of Gary. Jerry Vance wrote, "My heart fell yesterday when I received the news about my friend Gary Pegram. This man was simply a joy to be around and this community has lost an individual that brought smiles and laughter wherever he went. He never failed to bring a smile to my face whether it was overhearing his comments to his fellow workers (‘hey Bobo don’t hurt yourself…’) or for his love of our animal friends. Gary never ceased to amaze with his caring nature and his compassion for his fellow man. He will be sorely missed but heaven has truly gained another Angel. Rest in peace my friend and may all your corners be square and true as you lived your life only the good die young."
Other friends, such as Ben Clanton and Rebecca Sherrill, also expressed their sorrow and condolences. Sandra Pritchard Galloway added, "Another heartbroken family. Praying for them, and thinking of you too."
Gary Pegram’s passing has left a void in the hearts of many, but his legacy of kindness and joy will continue to be remembered and cherished by those who knew him. The community’s efforts to honor him demonstrate the deep impact he had on everyone around him.
