The late Gabby Archer, a member of the Australian Aboriginal Artwork and Crafts for Sale group, passed away a few days ago. The news of her passing has deeply affected the community, and efforts are underway to support her family during this difficult time. Rebecca Marsh, an admin of the group, is organizing a fundraiser to help cover the costs of flowers and the remaining funeral expenses.
Gabby was part of the Stolen Generation, a term referring to Aboriginal children who were forcibly removed from their families. She and her siblings were separated at a young age and only reunited later in life. Gabby had been creating artwork to raise money for a plaque to honor her late mother, a cause that was very close to her heart. Sadly, the trauma of her past became overwhelming, and Gabby left for the Dreamtime a few days ago.
Rebecca Marsh set up a GoFundMe campaign on June 16, 2024, to raise $1,000. As of now, the campaign has raised $1,079 AUD from 18 donations, surpassing its goal. The donations include $500 from an anonymous donor, which is the highest contribution, and $20 from Eve Elliott, the first donation.
Gabby’s sister, Zoe, and brother, Wayne, have expressed their gratitude for the support. The funeral is scheduled for this coming Saturday, and there will be a link available for those who wish to attend online and pay their respects.
Rebecca Marsh shared the emotional story on Facebook, highlighting Gabby’s struggle and her efforts to honor her mother’s memory. The post reads, "Gabby was using her artwork to try and raise money to buy her Mum a plaque so she wouldn’t be forgotten. It was extremely important to her." The community has come together to support the family, with many expressing their condolences and contributing to the fundraiser.
Rest in peace, Gabby Archer. Your memory and your art will live on in the hearts of those who knew you.
