Eric Petty Jr., aged 41, from Indianapolis, suffered a heart attack last week. Tragically, he will not recover, and his family has made the heartbreaking decision to remove him from life support this afternoon. Eric’s final act of generosity will be the donation of his organs.
This unexpected tragedy has left Eric’s family struggling to cover his burial expenses. Eric’s father, Eric Petty, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for his son’s final journey. He writes, "This is a post that no father ever wants to write. As some of you may know, my son, Eric Petty Jr., had a heart attack last week. To all of our heartbreak, he will not recover. He will be removed from life support today after his organs are harvested. Unfortunately, he didn’t have any life insurance and while losing our precious boy, we now have to figure out how to lay him to rest."
Eric Petty acknowledges the difficulty in asking for help but emphasizes the necessity of the situation. "Anyone that knows me, knows I don’t want to ask for help but I really don’t have an option at this time. So, if you are able and can find it in your heart to help, we all really appreciate it. If you’re not able, if you can share, that helps too. Thank you."
Jenn Blanchette, a close family friend, shared her thoughts on Facebook, saying, "Someone very close to me who is basically my sister, Shannon Rybolt, has had a family member suffer an unimaginable tragedy. Eric suffered a heart attack last week and he will not recover. The family has had to make a very difficult decision to remove him from life support this afternoon. Eric’s last earthly gift will be the donation of life. As you can imagine, being 41, this is very unexpected and has left his family with the need of help to help with burial expenses. I ask if you cannot donate, please share, and most of all, please pray and that they can feel the love of Jesus as they navigate this very difficult and trying time."
As of now, the GoFundMe campaign has raised $25 from an early supporter, Mariah Hubbard, out of the $11,000 goal needed for Eric’s burial expenses. The family deeply appreciates any support, whether through donations or shares, to help them during this challenging time.
