The late Dwayne Woods was a beloved member of the Chicago community. Dwayne, who was 50 years old, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2024, under suspicious circumstances. His sudden and tragic death has left his family and friends in deep sorrow and struggling to manage the unexpected funeral expenses.
Dwayne leaves behind three young children, aged 18, 9, and 3. His family is determined to give him a dignified farewell and is seeking support from the community to help cover the costs of his funeral. Amanda Allen, a close family friend, has organized a GoFundMe campaign with a goal of $10,000. The funds will be used to cover the funeral expenses, and any remaining money will be placed in a trust fund for Dwayne’s children.
Thomas T-Gunz Schaffer, Dwayne’s brother, expressed his grief and the family’s need for support on Facebook: “Can’t believe I’m doing this for my own family, but unfortunately my brother was taken from us and he didn’t have anything in place to protect our family. Any and everything would help our family put him to rest at peace, which he deserves. Me and my family would be very appreciative with a little help. Thanks again everyone and stay safe and blessed.”
The GoFundMe page highlights the painful situation the family is in: “No amount will lessen the heartbreak. All donations will go to his sisters, Dorvella Woods-Griggs and Dena Dumas, who are in charge of making his funeral arrangements. Any moneys left after funeral expenses have been paid will be placed in a trust fund for the three young children left behind.”
The community has begun to rally around the Woods family, showing their support through donations and kind messages. The family hopes to reach their fundraising goal to honor Dwayne’s memory and ensure his children have some financial security for the future.
