The late Dale Eugene Mundell, a beloved resident of Ottumwa, passed away on the morning of June 18, 2024, at Ridgewood Specialty Care. Born on January 30, 1948, to Clarence and Marie Maxine Harris Mundell, Dale was 76 years old. He lived a full life, sharing many laughs and creating memories with people from all walks of life.
His son, Diego Martinez, shared the news on Facebook, expressing the overwhelming financial and emotional toll the family is experiencing. "We’re a little overwhelmed with financial costs as well as the major emotional toll this is taking on us all," he wrote. Dale’s grandson, Brennan, who considered him his best friend, is especially heartbroken by the loss.
Ciarra Nicole Baxter, a friend of the family, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the end-of-life expenses. "Dale is the grandfather of a very special young man, named Brennan, that I have had the privilege of knowing for the last year and a half," she shared. "If you can find it in your heart to help out Brennan and his family by donating towards his end-of-life services, I know this family will be forever grateful."
Dale is survived by his children, Brandon Mundell of Ottumwa, William Mundell of Creston, Michelle Mundell of Missouri, Victor Mundell of Texas, and Ty of Keokuk; over 30 grandchildren, including Keyton, Keely, and Brennan; and more than 10 great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother, Glenn Mundell, and sister, Jeretta Bliss.
The community has shown an outpouring of support, with numerous friends and family members expressing their condolences and offering help. Cody Nordyke commented, "Oh my God I’m so sorry to hear about that man your dad was a great guy I’m here if you need to talk or hang out man." Halee Denham added, "Keeping y’all in my thoughts and prayers your father was a great man, sharing this, I hope you guys can get the help you need to ease the load."
Although no formal services are planned, Dale’s family and friends remember him as a wonderful father, grandfather, and uncle who loved spending time with his family and always tried to make people smile. The GoFundMe campaign is still active, with an initial donation already made, reflecting the community’s desire to honor Dale’s legacy and support his grieving family during this difficult time.
