Cynthia Silva Dorton, a resident of Kennewick, Washington, passed away on June 10, 2024, after a prolonged battle with her health. Cynthia’s daughter, Maleah Serrato, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, revealing the family’s struggle to cover funeral expenses. Cynthia had been suffering from kidney failure, requiring dialysis for six years, and had stage 4 congestive heart failure for a couple of years.
Maleah, who was Cynthia’s caregiver and sole provider, found her mother unresponsive and cold in her bed when she went to wake her up for dialysis. "She woke up in pain and went to sleep in pain every single day. She is now pain-free and with her husband Michael and her son Jaden in heaven," Maleah shared.
To cope with the financial burden, Maleah has organized a GoFundMe campaign titled "Support Maleah and her children in memory of Cynthia Dorton." The fundraiser aims to raise $7,000 to cover the celebration of life expenses and day-to-day costs. As of now, the campaign has raised $100 from two donations, with contributions from Hosmara Contreras and Lisa Bennett.
Jennifer Humphries expressed her condolences on Facebook, stating, "I regret to inform you all that Jaden’s mother Cynthia Silva Dorton passed away on June 10, 2024, after a years-long battle with her health. Cynthia died without ever seeing justice for her son. The family is struggling with the funeral costs and has created a GoFundMe to ask for help. Please donate if you can find it in your heart to do so. Keep this family in your prayers as they deal with yet another devastation in a long line of many."
Maleah conveyed her deep appreciation for any support during this challenging time, emphasizing the importance of community assistance in navigating her mother’s passing and her own responsibilities as a single mother of two. "The number one thing I hate doing is asking for help, this is so hard for me to do but I have children to think about now and I understand there’s no way I can do this on my own," Maleah wrote.
The community is rallying around Maleah and her family, offering both financial and emotional support to help them through this difficult period.
