Christopher Poitra, age 42, of Dunseith, North Dakota, passed away on June 9, 2024, at Quentin Burdick Memorial Hospital in Belcourt, North Dakota. His sudden death from heart failure has left his family and friends in deep mourning.
Christopher’s father, Paul Baker, shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, expressing his grief and pride in his son. "To the many friends who know me and the one that got to know my son Christopher Poitra either through working with him at Pizza Hut in Gun Barrel City, Texas, he passed away on June the 9th in Belcourt, North Dakota. He was a great person and he always made me proud, just like his two brothers do to this day. I’m still thinking that it’s only a dream, but I woke up the past two days and realized that it’s not a dream. I can honestly say that Chris Poitra was my firstborn, and he is the reason why I enjoy being called Dad. I’m so honored that I got to be his father and can’t wait until we see each other again, and it will be like we never been apart from each other."
Paul also mentioned that Christopher’s mother, Yvette Vivier, has set up a GoFundMe account to help with the funeral expenses. The fundraiser, created on June 10, 2024, has so far raised $140 out of a $5,000 target. The donations include contributions from Danette Wolff ($100), Mike Selburg ($20), and Kiley VanSickle ($20).
In her GoFundMe post, Yvette Vivier shared, "My name is Yvette Vivier & I am raising money for my son Christopher Poitra’s funeral services. He passed away yesterday from heart failure. Please help out with what you can, it will be greatly appreciated, thank you."
The community has shown support, but more assistance is needed to reach the fundraising goal. Funeral services for Christopher Poitra are pending at this time and are being arranged by Elick Funeral Home in Rolla, North Dakota.
Lyle Wade OldElk Davis also expressed his condolences on Facebook, joining many others who are keeping Christopher’s family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
