The late Bernie Venditte was a resident of Omaha, Nebraska. He passed away peacefully on the evening of June 17, 2024, surrounded by his family. Bernie had suffered a major stroke on May 26, 2024, which led to devastating brain damage. After spending 18 days in the ICU, he was brought home for his final days.
Bernie endured many medical issues over the years, including multiple surgeries and chronic pain, which made him ineligible for life insurance. As a result, his long-time girlfriend and caretaker, Jeanine Rowe, has been left with the burden of covering his final expenses. Jeanine has organized a GoFundMe campaign to raise $15,000, of which $1,115 has been raised so far from 16 donations. The top donation of $300 was made by Dennis Sayles, who also made the first donation of $25.
Jeanine shared her heartfelt gratitude on Facebook, stating, "With a completely broken heart, I’m sorry to share the news that Bernie Venditte has left us to be with his parents in heaven. He passed yesterday evening peacefully in our home surrounded by his family. We had a very long battle praying endlessly for him to wake up, praying he would make a full recovery but God wanted him more than we needed him."
Many friends and family members expressed their condolences and support on Facebook. Anthony Jute commented, "I am so sorry…." Aimee Assman added, "Jeanine, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I love you and prayers to all of you through this devastating time." Laura Ann wrote, "Oh Jeanine, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss. Big hugs and prayers sent your way."
Vanessa Barajas also expressed her sorrow, "I am so so sorry to hear of the loss of the gentle man. I have not had the opportunity to meet him. Our condolences to you and his family." Sarah Cooper shared, "Praying for you and his family during this time. Loved Bernie!"
Jeanine’s fundraising efforts and the outpouring of support from the community reflect the deep love and respect people had for Bernie. The community has rallied to help, but there is still a long way to go to meet the fundraising goal. Jeanine and Bernie’s family continue to appreciate any help they receive during this challenging time.
As Jeanine poignantly noted, "Thank you to all who have prayed with us and for us during this time. Thank you for everyone who sent get well cards, gifts and food to the hospital. Bernie would have been so happy to see all the support that was shown to us by our friends and loved ones. We also want to thank all our wonderful nurses in the ICU and Peaceful Hearts Hospice for the extraordinary care that we have received from their team of nurses and aids."
