Sheunopa Kumbirai Mawire, Known as Kumbie, Passes Away Unexpectedly in South Bend, IN, Leaving Family and Friends Heartbroken

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Sheunopa Kumbirai Mawire, affectionately known as Kumbie, on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in South Bend, Indiana.

Kumbie, who immigrated to the United States in 2000, had made the Michiana area his home. His sudden passing has left his family, both in Zimbabwe and around the world, in shock and deep sorrow, as well as the North American community that knew him.

A gifted pianist, Kumbie was known for his musical talents and his ministry work in churches throughout the Michiana community. His music touched countless lives, and the loss of his presence leaves an immeasurable void.

Kumbie is survived by his five children, including two boys and three girls, his mother in Zimbabwe, and his siblings. His family is devastated by this loss, especially his mother, who is struggling to come to terms with the passing of her beloved child.

A fundraiser has been set up by friends and family to assist with the repatriation of Kumbie’s remains to Zimbabwe, where he will be laid to rest. The community is rallying together to raise the necessary funds to cover funeral expenses, with a goal of $20,000.

As the Mawire family navigates this incredibly difficult time, they are deeply grateful for the support, prayers, and generosity from all who are able to contribute.

Details regarding the memorial service will be shared at a later time, as the family continues to mourn the loss of a beloved father, son, and friend.
