Roy Somers Remembered As A Devoted Family Member, Coach, Advocate For Kids, And Atlantic City Barbell Teammate After Sudden Passing
Roy Somers has passed away suddenly, according to a fundraiser created today, Thursday, May 21, 2026, by Stacy Merkh on behalf of Tara Somers.
Stacy Merkh described Roy as a son, sibling, friend, advocate for kids, coach, fellow lifter, spouse to Tara, and devoted parent to Lorelei and Gwendolyn.
Roy spent 13 years connected with Stacy Merkh’s family after first coaching soccer, and that relationship grew into a close friendship and lifting partnership.
Roy trained with Atlantic City Barbell for more than a decade, traveled to competitions, supported teammates, and volunteered each year at Special Olympics Powerlifting events.
The fundraiser, titled “Honoring Roy Somers: Support for Tara and the Girls,” has raised $4,745 toward an $18,000 goal through 30 donations.
Funds will help Tara, Lorelei, and Gwendolyn with living costs during this difficult time.
Family members will announce obituary and funeral service details at a later date.
