Melvin Jerome-Sterling Lawson, 41, died on May 16, 2026, after an ATV crash on Rose Tucker Road in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.

Virginia State Police said Lawson operated a 2022 Can-Am Renegade ATV when it left the roadway and struck a tree, with speed noted as a contributing factor.

Lawson, affectionately known as Mel, worked as a heavy equipment operator and CDL driver, earning respect for dedication, reliability, humor, and generosity.

Family, friends, and neighbors across Spotsylvania County and Westmoreland County remember Lawson as a devoted parent to Marcus and Tiana and a valued presence in the community.

A public visitation is scheduled for Friday, May 22, 2026, followed by a funeral service on Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
