Leland Arnett, a young child from De Soto, Illinois, died after a May 13, 2026 incident at a home on Hickory Street, and the community now mourns a life remembered for outdoor play and family love.
Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies responded shortly after 11 p.m. following a 911 call, and emergency crews took Leland and Deborah Arnett to a hospital with serious injuries.
Family members confirmed Leland’s passing days later and shared that Deborah remained hospitalized as of May 20, 2026.
Authorities arrested Marcus Lee Moultrie, 36, and prosecutors later updated the case after Leland’s death, while a judge denied pretrial release.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remained active, and prosecutors planned to review medical findings and reports before presenting the matter to a grand jury.
