Layten Perkins Remembered After Early Morning New Market Road Collision in Henrico’s Varina District on May 5, 2026
Layten Perkins, a 32-year-old Ohio resident, died on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, after an early morning collision in Henrico County’s Varina District.
Authorities said the crash happened shortly after 6:16 a.m. on the 3600 block of New Market Road near New Market Heights Lane.
Emergency crews found a red Mini Cooper and a Chevrolet Express van with heavy damage after a direct impact.
Perkins was the only occupant of the Mini Cooper and first responders pronounced Perkins deceased at the scene.
Two adults in the van sustained severe, life-threatening injuries and received transport to a nearby hospital for close medical care.
Investigators said the Mini Cooper traveled westbound before crossing the center line for reasons still under review and striking the eastbound van.
The roadway stayed closed for several hours while reconstruction teams documented evidence and mapped the final positions of both vehicles.
Henrico authorities continue to review the case and memorial service details will be announced later by family members.
