Doctors first noted concerns during a 20-week ultrasound, and a 25-week follow-up led specialists at Primary Children’s Hospital to diagnose Idiopathic Right Atrial Enlargement.
On May 26, a routine scan showed fluid throughout Ezra’s body and a dangerously irregular heart rhythm, prompting an ambulance transfer from Idaho Falls to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City after storms grounded flights.
Doctors confirmed heart failure the next morning, and Ezra’s family chose comfort care while surrounding Ezra with love.
Ezra lived for 30 treasured minutes, with a tiny heart beating at 60 beats per minute, before passing peacefully in the arms of family.
A fundraiser created on May 29, 2026, by Ben Eddy for Sergio Ponce has raised $1,007 of a $15,000 goal through 17 donations.
The family plans to bring Ezra home to Rexburg, Idaho, for a small family ceremony, with memorial service details to come later.
