The late Zion Gibbs, a 7-year-old student at Benjamin Martin Elementary School, tragically lost his life following a drive-by shooting at his home in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Zion passed away at UNC Chapel Hill Hospital on June 10, 2024, after being critically injured in the shooting that occurred early Friday morning, June 7th, on the 800 block of Danish Drive. Multiple shots were fired into the residence, with one striking Zion, who was playing a video game on the living room couch at the time.
Zion’s aunt, Treka Beasley, has created a GoFundMe page titled "For the Love of Zion Gibbs – Family Support for Tragic Loss" to assist his mother, Myra Gibbs, with funeral expenses and other financial obligations. The fundraiser aims to raise $10,000. In her heartfelt message, Treka describes Zion as a loving, kind-hearted, and vibrant young boy who brought joy to everyone around him. She recounts his love for gospel and R&B music, especially the song "Lift Me Up" by Rihanna, which he often sang with great enthusiasm.
The Fayetteville Police Department is actively investigating the incident. As the community grieves, there has been an outpouring of support and compassion, underscoring the importance of unity and the strength found in collective kindness during such difficult times. Zion’s family continues to seek prayers, love, and support as they navigate this profound loss.
