The late Tyler Falk, from Abbotsford, British Columbia, tragically passed away on Sunday, June 16th, 2024, at 10:36 am. Tyler’s journey began with a devastating diagnosis of Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (T-ALL) shortly after his honeymoon with his wife, Erika. His battle with cancer lasted for ten arduous months, marked by intensive treatments, including chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.
Tyler’s initial symptoms began on his honeymoon, leading to an emergency rush to Vancouver General Hospital. His white blood cell count was alarmingly high, indicating severe illness. Despite the rigorous treatments and a period of outpatient life, his cancer returned in March, and his condition deteriorated rapidly.
Throughout this challenging time, Tyler’s faith and optimism never wavered. His wife Erika, along with their families and church community, provided unwavering support. Tyler remained hopeful and encouraged those around him, even as his health declined. He was surrounded by family and friends in his final days, sharing moments of humor, prayer, and heartfelt conversations.
Ernest Romanchik, a close friend of Tyler, organized a GoFundMe campaign to support Erika and cover the funeral expenses. The campaign has raised $31,268 CAD of its $40,000 goal, with contributions from 196 donors. Ernest shared a poignant message on Facebook, expressing Tyler’s deep appreciation for the community’s support and his reassurance that Erika would be cared for after his passing.
Maria Dyck commented, "I am so sorry for the loss of your friend," and Connie Delgatty Krahn-Manning added, "Prayers for Erika." These sentiments echo the collective grief and solidarity felt by all who knew Tyler. The funds raised will ensure that Erika can grieve without financial burdens, honoring Tyler’s wish for her to be supported.
The community’s response underscores the profound impact Tyler had on those around him and the importance of collective support in times of crisis.
