Tony Wayne Skaggs, a beloved resident of Ketchikan, Alaska, passed away on May 30th, shortly after 11 pm. Despite the best efforts of doctors and nurses, his heart ultimately failed. The news of his passing has left his family and the community in deep sorrow.
Tony was a multifaceted individual: a devoted husband, father, brother, best friend to many, and a dedicated member of the community. He was known for his willingness to challenge and support those he loved, even after his health declined post-retirement. His determination to help others was evident, as he continued to assist people, often traveling across the island by city bus.
A proud Air Force Veteran and a skilled Ford Master Mechanic, Tony was also affectionately known as a "City of Ketchikan rain drop dodger." His dedication extended to his family’s store, WAC – Wicked Awesome Craftinators, located at 410 Mission Street. Even in his final days, Tony ensured the store was well-stocked and actively engaged with tourists and locals alike.
To cope with the unexpected funeral costs, Tony’s daughter, Bre Skaggs, has organized a GoFundMe campaign aiming to raise $3,500. The fundraiser is not just about covering expenses but also about allowing the family time to grieve and process their loss. The Skaggs family has asked for some privacy during this difficult period, requesting that friends and acquaintances give them a little more time before reaching out with messages or calls.
Bre has expressed profound gratitude to those who supported the family on the night of Tony’s passing, acknowledging the significant impact their help had during such a challenging time. Additionally, she encourages people to share stories, pictures, and videos of Tony to celebrate his life and the joy he brought to others.
In the spirit of Tony’s favorite quote from George Carlin, "Don’t sweat the petty things and don’t pet the sweaty things," the family remains resilient, finding comfort in their memories and the support of their community.
