The late Tom Sardilli of Newington, Connecticut, passed away on June 17, 2024, after a courageous eight-year battle with prostate cancer. Known for his boundless energy and positive attitude, Tom left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Tom’s friend Darren Kelley shared his heartfelt tribute on Facebook, remembering Tom as "one of the most positive people I know who was always a cheering coach no matter what it might be." Darren recalled their adventures from racing bikes and playing golf to boating, emphasizing Tom’s infectious enthusiasm and competitive spirit. "RIP BRO T, I know you’re not in pain and suffering anymore. Keep that bike prepped and the clubs hot; we will meet again," he wrote, reflecting on their deep bond.
Tom’s children, Dan and Melissa, are now raising funds to honor their father’s legacy through a GoFundMe campaign. Melissa Sardilli Tharau, who is organizing the fundraiser, described Tom’s active life and achievements, including his roles as an insurance agent, founder of New England Motocross (NEMX), and co-owner of an indoor golf simulator, Happy’s, in Southington. Tom’s love for adventure extended to boating, spending time with his French bulldogs, and cruising in his Corvette.
The fundraiser aims to cover Tom’s memorial expenses and support the Sardilli family during this difficult time. The family has been overwhelmed by medical bills and the costs of a proper farewell for Tom. Any additional funds will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation to support research and development of treatments and cures.
A wake will be held on Thursday, June 27, from 4-7pm at Duksa Family Funeral Home in Newington, followed by a Celebration of Life Gathering on Friday, June 28, from 1-5pm at the Burlington Men’s Club. Tom will be laid to rest privately in West Meadow Cemetery in Newington with his mother.
The outpouring of support on Facebook reflects the profound impact Tom had on his community. Friends like Linda Siegel and Joan Sweet offered their condolences, while Rich Frank humorously noted, "Tom got me hooked on boating. My bank account will most definitely never forget him!!" Cheryl L. Martin poignantly remarked, "Next time you’re riding or playing golf, look over your shoulder. He’ll be right there. Guiding, helping, or just watching."
Tom Sardilli’s legacy of positivity, adventure, and love will continue to inspire those who knew him. His memory lives on through the stories shared by friends and family, and the efforts to honor his life and battle against cancer.
