Todd Chapman of Oswegatchie, NY, passed away on May 31, 2024, at Clifton-Fine Hospital after a brief illness. He was sixty-one years old. Todd’s passing has deeply affected his family and the community.
Todd was born on May 15, 1963, to Sandra (Mundt) Chapman and the late Richard Chapman of Rochester, New York. He was the second child and firstborn son in his family. Todd graduated from John Marshall High School in Rochester in 1981. He initially worked in the HVAC industry for his father before joining various other companies, including Tom/Vin Enterprises in Rochester. After becoming disabled, he retrained as a long-distance truck driver and later drove buses for the disabled through ARC in Mount Morris, NY.
In 1998, Todd married Katherine (Skiff) Calderwood at the Open Door Mission in Rochester, and they had been married for 26 years at the time of his death. He is survived by his mother, Sandra Chapman, his wife, Katherine Chapman, his children Todd Chapman Jr. and Jason R. Chapman, his step-children Ethan, David, and Grace Calderwood, Ariel Orellana, and his grandson, Alexander Orellana. He also leaves behind his siblings Tara Chapman-Boggs, Timothy Chapman, Marie Chapman-Croll, and Killeen Smith, as well as numerous other relatives. Todd was preceded in death by his father Richard Chapman and his nephew Jeremy Boggs.
Known for his love of hunting, fishing, and cooking, Todd was also proficient in HVAC, car mechanics, electrical, and plumbing. He was a caring and protective husband and father, known for his tough exterior and loyalty to friends. His humor and ability to find laughter in everyday life will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service for Todd will be held at a later date. The family is currently raising funds for his final expenses through a GoFundMe campaign set up by his stepson, David Calderwood. The goal is to cover the $3,500 required for cremation and any additional funds will go towards his memorial service and supporting his widow, Katherine Chapman.
Condolences and messages of support have poured in from friends and family on Facebook. Kat Chapman shared a heartfelt post about Todd, mentioning a fond memory from Deanie’s Restaurant in New Orleans after his miraculous recovery from septic shock last year.
Melissa Gallagher commented, "I’m so sorry Kat Chapman, sending you all some love," while Ericia Marie Delaney added, "I’m sorry for your loss big hugs xoxoxoxo." Numerous others, including David Story, Denise Bartlett, and Irene Pinos, expressed their condolences and support for the Chapman family during this difficult time.
