Thomas DeLeon, affectionately known as Tommy, Coach Tom, Blue, Grandpa, Pops, and Papa, passed away on June 30, 2024. His daughter, Kimberly DeLeon, has organized a fundraiser to honor his legacy and cover the costs of his burial and cremation, which are not covered by the VA despite his military service.
Thomas was a patient and hardworking man, always ready to help others. He was a beloved coach and teacher of baseball, impacting many with his knowledge and passion for the sport. His family describes him as a pillar of strength, a hero, and a wonderful grandfather.
Thomas’s health struggles began when he underwent heart surgery. Although the surgery was initially successful, complications arose during his recovery. He suffered mini strokes that left him incapacitated, unable to speak, walk, or care for himself. Despite battling a brain bleed, brain infection, and severe bedsores, Thomas’s condition continued to decline as he moved between understaffed nursing homes and hospitals.
The family had hoped Thomas would recover enough to live with his wife in their RV, but his condition worsened, and he passed away. The emotional and financial strain on the family has been immense since December.
Kimberly DeLeon is seeking help through a GoFundMe campaign to raise $5,500 for the mortuary and cremation costs. As of now, the campaign has raised $300 from three donors. Kimberly expresses her gratitude to those who have supported her family during this difficult time and appeals for further donations to help lay her father to rest.
