Sophann Im, a beloved mother and community member from Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away on June 27th at Lowell General Hospital. Born in Battambang, Cambodia, she was a survivor of the Khmer Rouge. At the age of 52, she left behind a grieving family including her children Lisa Im (33), Johnny Im (32), Tommy Sok (30), Angela Mao (29), and an eagerly awaited grandson due in August 2024. She is also survived by her dog, Zuko, and numerous siblings, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.
Sophann’s passing has left a deep void in her family’s life. Sovanarith Sok, one of her children, has organized a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the funeral expenses and honor her memory. The goal is to raise $10,000, and as of now, $50 has been donated by Louis Hang.
On Facebook, friends and family have shared their sorrow and memories of Sophann. Chinks TheBaby wrote, "She was the kindest soul who always made sure everyone was fed and loved. We will miss her dearly."
The funeral services for Sophann will be held on July 7th and 8th at Trairatanaram Temple in North Chelmsford, MA. The Buddhist ceremonies will take place on both days, with cremation scheduled for July 8th.
Sophann Im was known for her loving nature and her dedication to her family. Her unexpected death due to health complications has deeply affected those who knew her. She was a nurturing figure who always ensured her family was taken care of, often staying up late to wait for them to come home and sometimes scolding them for leaving the door unlocked.
Her family and community are now coming together to honor her memory and support each other through this difficult time.
