The late Sonna Gibba, a cherished member of the Gambian and African community in Langen, Germany, passed away suddenly on Monday, July 1st. Her unexpected death has left her family and friends in profound grief. Known for her infectious smile and unyielding spirit, Sonna was a mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who deeply touched the lives of those around her.
Sonna had been battling a severe illness over the past two years, which significantly impacted her physical and emotional well-being. Despite frequent hospital visits and extended stays in intensive care, she maintained her faith in God and hoped for recovery until the very end. Her resilience and unwavering optimism will always be remembered by those who knew her.
In her final years, Sonna expressed a heartfelt wish to be buried in her homeland, Gambia. Unfortunately, due to her illness, she was unable to secure the necessary funds to fulfill this wish. To honor Sonna’s last request, her family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign, organized by Awa Seydi-Jammeh, to raise the €7,000 needed to transport her to Gambia for her final journey.
The campaign has garnered significant support, with 22 donations totaling €1,155 so far. Among the contributors, Jonathan Jakobs made a recent donation of €10, an anonymous donor contributed the highest amount of €160, and Awa Seydi-Jammeh herself made the first donation of €100. The family is appealing to the generosity of those who knew Sonna to help them reach their goal and provide her with the peace she longed for.
Sonna leaves behind three children and a brother in Germany. Her memory lives on through the countless lives she touched with her humor, laughter, and dedication to her community. The family’s fundraising effort is a testament to their love and commitment to honoring Sonna’s final wishes.
