The late Sean Marko, an extraordinary soul known for his kindness, talent, and fearless nature, passed away this past week. His loss has been deeply felt by friends, family, and the community. Known for his gap-toothed smile and remarkable skateboarding and snowboarding skills, Sean was cherished as a friend, brother, son, nephew, and team rider.
To support Sean’s family in bringing him back home to Ontario from British Columbia and to assist with funeral expenses, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by his friends and family. The campaign has raised $2,165 CAD of its $15,000 goal, with contributions from 21 donors. Cody Baker made the top donation of $500, followed by Erin Hunt’s $100 donation, and an anonymous donation of $75.
Erin Hunt shared heartfelt words on Facebook: "This past week, we mourned the loss of an extraordinary soul, Sean Marko. Marko embodied kindness, talent, fearlessness, and a gap-toothed smile that lit up every room. To us, he was a friend, a best friend, a brother, a son, a nephew, and a beloved team rider."
The fundraiser, organized by Abby Furrer along with Cody Baker, Braeden Hunt, and Derek Vaile, aims to alleviate the financial burden on Sean’s family during this difficult time. The unexpected costs of travel and funeral expenses have added to the emotional weight of their loss.
"Sean seldomly asked for help but often offered it. This is our time to show up for him just as he did for so many of us," wrote Abby Furrer. The community’s support is crucial in honoring Sean’s memory and helping his family through this challenging period.
A celebration of Sean’s life will be held in Banff and Burlington in the near future, with updates to be shared as plans progress. Sean’s legacy of kindness and bravery will continue to inspire those who knew him.
