The late Saniya Felton, a six-year-old girl from Bayonne, New Jersey, tragically lost her life in a house fire on the night of Sunday, June 30th. The devastating incident has left her family, particularly her mother, Latrice Felton, and her brother, in a state of profound grief and upheaval. The fire not only claimed Saniya’s life but also destroyed their home, leaving Latrice and her son homeless.
Latrice Felton has organized a GoFundMe campaign to seek support from the community during this incredibly challenging time. The fundraiser, titled "Help Saniya’s Family Rebuild After Tragedy," aims to raise $50,000. As of now, $1,250 has been raised through four donations. Latrice’s plea for help is heart-wrenching as she describes the loss of her only daughter and the desperate situation she and her son now face.
In her GoFundMe post, Latrice shared, "Saniya was my only daughter – my youngest child. Anyone that knows me, knew that she was my mini person. As I write this, I am thinking of all the fun times we spent together and the massive void that I will live with forever. My son and I watched the house burn down, as we stood there helpless. It goes without saying that our lives will never be the same."
The community has begun to rally around the Felton family. Facebook user Rebecca Kariel posted, "Hey Facebook, making this post with a heavy heart. My cousin lost her daughter in a house fire last night, and my family is asking for any type of donations to help rebuild the family." Veronica Phillips expressed her condolences, saying, "So sorry for your loss," while Samantha Peterkin added, "Gift a Ton, Inc. will make a donation." Tiny Murray also sent her deepest sympathies, "I am so sorry for your loss and want to send my deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time."
Latrice expressed her gratitude to the first responders for their bravery and action, as well as to the community and family members who have offered their support. Despite the overwhelming grief and loss, the Felton family is striving to navigate this tough time with the help of their community. The fundraising effort highlights the critical need for collective support in the face of such tragedies.
