The late Rodrick Tyrone Grimes from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away recently, leaving his family and community heartbroken. Treniece Grimes, his sister, is organizing a fundraiser to help lay him to rest, as they were unprepared for this sudden loss. Rodrick, who had been paralyzed from the waist down since a traumatic accident on April 4, 2022, struggled to adapt to his new way of life. This change led him to lose faith and feel like a burden to others.
Rodrick leaves behind four children: Kassidy Franklin, 7, Raelyn Grimes, 11, and twins Rainell and Raynell Thornton, both 15. The family is now seeking donations to cover funeral expenses, aiming to raise $12,000. As of now, they have collected $175 from three donations.
Alicia Jazzyz Sweetz Hawkins shared her thoughts on Facebook, urging the community to support the Grimes family: "To all those who are fortunate enough donate please try to assist the Grimes family as they attempt to lay their loved one to rest!! Tee and Neicy can’t do this by themselves! No amount too small! Please reach out to @tea__lasha for more info or search Rodrick Grimes on the GoFundMe website. If you are unable to donate please just uplift the family with prayers! Thanks in advance."
Rodrick’s sister, Treniece, expressed the family’s grief and need for help: "We lost our mom on 08/03/01 and our grandmother, our rock, shortly after on 09/23/01. And as you all know, we lost our brother Trinity on 01/01/2018. We were not prepared for this, and we are heartbroken. Whatever is given will be greatly appreciated. Please, please keep our family in your deepest thoughts and prayers. God bless you all."
The community has started to rally around the fundraiser, but there is still a long way to go. The Grimes family hopes to raise enough funds to give Rodrick a proper farewell and alleviate some of the financial burdens during this difficult time.
