The late Robert Boom, a dedicated correction officer from New York City, tragically passed away in the line of duty on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. He was a respected member of the Department of Correction, having served since 2011 when he graduated from the Correction Academy.
Officer Boom began his career at the Anna M. Kross Center (AMKC) on Rikers Island, where he worked closely with Captain Williams. When the AMKC closed, both Officer Boom and Captain Williams were reassigned to the Otis Bantum Correctional Center (OBCC) on Rikers Island. Captain Williams, a 20-year veteran of the DOC, shared her memories of Officer Boom, stating, "It was an honor to work with him all these years and see him grow in this career. Officer Boom was always humble and he took pride in being a great partner. He was a selfless person. He went to his post with no issues and he was always ready to help this Department. He was a true Officer."
The community and his colleagues have expressed their sorrow and respect for Officer Boom through various Facebook posts. Daryl Moore simply wrote, "Salute," while Ceaser Lux added, "S.I.P big bro." Other heartfelt messages included Blanca Alicea’s "RIP officer Boom" and Felicia Gilliard’s "SIP." Many others shared similar sentiments, showing how deeply Officer Boom’s passing has affected those who knew him.
To support Officer Boom’s family during this difficult time, Ruth Acosta has organized a GoFundMe campaign. The fundraiser aims to raise $20,000 to help cover funeral expenses and provide some financial relief to his grieving family. As of now, $125 has been raised, thanks to the early donation by Dolis Medina.
