Rey Gomez, Costa Mesa, California – The community is mourning the loss of Rey Gomez, who passed away on Monday, July 1st, from a heart attack. Rey was just one week shy of turning 50, with his birthday marked on the calendar for July 9th. His passing has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew him, particularly his wife, Sunny Gomez, and their children, Mateo and Mia.
Rey’s friend, Jeremy Parker, shared heartfelt memories on Facebook, reminiscing about their adventures and the deep bond they shared. Jeremy wrote, "Rey could make me laugh harder than anyone. He had a special gift for being able to ‘break things down’ in insightful ways that would also make you crack up. I always looked up to him. I am grateful for having the privilege to know Rey and I thank God for having put him in my life. Rey was a true friend that I will miss dearly. Que en paz descanse."
Rey had been battling cancer for the past three years and had recently gone into remission. Despite his ongoing recovery from numerous procedures, he continued to support his family and was in the process of remodeling their condo to create a safer environment for their autistic son, Mateo. Tragically, Rey suffered a heart attack while installing a front door for their home.
In the wake of Rey’s passing, Claire Aleman, Sunny’s sister, organized a GoFundMe campaign to support the Gomez family. The fundraiser aims to raise $15,000 to help with funeral expenses and to alleviate the financial burden on Sunny, who now faces overwhelming expenses on her own. As of now, the campaign has raised $2,075 from 16 donations.
Valerie Sinclair, who made the top donation of $500, along with many others, is rallying to provide much-needed support to the family during this difficult time. The community’s outpouring of love and financial assistance reflects the deep impact Rey had on those around him.
Rey Gomez’s life was marked by his resilience, humor, and dedication to his family and friends. His legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
