The late Preston Fontana was from Saskatoon. His unexpected passing has left his family and friends in mourning. Preston had been bravely battling leukemia and had successfully overcome the disease, but he succumbed to an infection following chemotherapy. His family is now raising funds for his Celebration of Life through a GoFundMe campaign organized by Sharol Fontana.
Sharol and Myles Fontana shared that Preston passed away on June 10th at the Royal University Hospital in the ICU, surrounded by family. They emphasized that he was not in pain or suffering at the end. The fundraiser aims to collect $4,000 to hold a service at the end of June, celebrating Preston with all his loved ones. So far, they have raised $535 from eight donations.
Afrin Sarca, a close friend of Preston, expressed her grief on Facebook, writing, "Unexpectedly we lost him after he had been battling leukemia and got an infection after his chemotherapy. He was a sweet man, I’m happy to have known him for the short time that I did. Preston was the other half of the Comedy Picnic. He was always happy despite what might be going on in his life. He lives on in spirit and memory through his cat, his grandmother, his mother, his brother, The Comedy Picnic, and his friends that cherished him."
Community members have shared their condolences and offered support. Peggy Martin-Mcguire commented, "I’m so sorry! This is terrible. I will make a donation," to which Afrin replied, "Thank you Peggy, it will really help his family."
Preston’s family and friends remember him fondly and are striving to honor his memory with a proper celebration of life. The fundraiser reflects the love and solidarity of those who cherished him and wish to commemorate his life despite the tragic circumstances of his passing.
