The late Peetria Cope, known to many as Julian, was a beloved member of the Nantucket community. Peetria was a devoted parent, cherished daughter, and a beloved aunt whose presence brought joy and comfort to those around her. Her untimely passing has left her family and friends in deep mourning.
To honor Peetria’s memory and give her the farewell she deserves, her family is facing significant financial challenges. Torane Burton has organized a fundraiser to support Peetria’s final journey to Jamaica, the land she loved so dearly. As of yesterday, the fundraiser has raised $2,686 of its $9,000 goal, with contributions from 25 donors. The most recent donation of $100 was made by Namanjie Gifford, and the top donation of $300 was given by Rohane Harris. Naudia Watson, who made the first donation of $200, shared her heartfelt memories on Facebook, saying, "Julian, you were always smiling and what I remember most about you was your electrifying energy. It’s still unbelievable that you passed. I hope you are at peace."
Other friends and family members also expressed their condolences and shared their memories. Andrea Smith commented, "She was always so full of life, lots of energy. RIP." Kamachea Campbell added, "My condolences to the family. RIP Julian," and Natalee Gooden echoed, "True rest in peace, Julian."
Despite the grief and financial strain, Peetria’s family is determined to lay her to rest in her homeland of Jamaica, surrounded by the beauty and warmth of her roots. They are reaching out to the community for support during this difficult time. Any contribution, no matter how small, will help them achieve this goal and give Peetria the dignified farewell she deserves.
As Peetria’s loved ones come to terms with their profound loss, the outpouring of support and generosity from the community has been a source of comfort and strength. Their gratitude is immense, and they appreciate any form of assistance, whether it be through donations, sharing the fundraiser, or offering condolences and prayers.
