Pauline Chung, a beloved figure known for her grace and kindness, tragically passed away at the age of 82 in a devastating trailer fire on June 20, 2024, in California. Born in Kingston, Jamaica, she grew up to become Miss Hawaii and even had the honor of meeting The Queen, presenting her with a bouquet during a royal visit to St Ann’s Bay.
The tragic fire began on June 15, 2024, and also claimed the life of her husband, Steve Livley. Despite being airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Hospital in Colton, California, Pauline succumbed to her injuries. Her grandson, Michael Sanchez III, shared his deep sorrow over not being able to reach her in time from Oregon.
Michael has organized a GoFundMe campaign to cover the expenses associated with this unexpected tragedy. The fundraiser, titled "Support for Pauline Chung," has raised $225 of its $6,000 goal so far. Donations have come from individuals such as Jaidyn Thompson, Elida Delacruz, and several anonymous donors.
Noelle De La Cruz, a friend of the family, expressed her grief on Facebook, saying, "A very hard loss we’ve experienced recently… such a beautiful woman. If you can, anything is always appreciated. Thank you."
Michael fondly remembered his grandmother as a woman of remarkable accomplishments and profound kindness. "She was kind, caring, and thoughtful to her family and took care of me when I was young," he wrote. Pauline and her husband were devoted Seventh-Day Adventists and active in their local church communities, building meaningful friendships.
The community’s support during this difficult time is crucial to Michael and his family as they navigate the aftermath of this tragic event. Donations will go towards memorial services and assisting with other related expenses.
"Please join me in honoring the life of Miss Hawaii, Pauline Chung, whose presence will forever be missed but never forgotten. She may now rest in peace and in a better place," Michael concluded in his heartfelt message on GoFundMe.
